City show their class

Bradford City preparing for their first campaign in the Second Division in nearly fifty years, underlined their promise with a well-deserved West Riding Cup victory over Leeds United. City's impressive efforts left few doubts that they're ideally equipped not only to remain in the Second Division, but also to cause a few shocks. City's twenty-one-year-old striker Adrian Thorpe, signed on a free-transfer two weeks ago, gave Leeds defender Neil Aspin a trying afternoon and he put City back on level terms after George McCluskey had opened the scoring for Leeds. It was Thorpe's determination which led to Aspin conceding a thirty-ninth minute penalty, which Greg Abbott easily converted. Midfielder John Sheridan levelled matters when he surged through the City defence after an exchange of passes with Scott Sellars. The visitors hit back with a couple of goals from striker Bobby Campbell. Both were close-range efforts, the first a header from John Hendrie's right wing centre and the second a tap in from three yards.
